InDesign opens as K2 CS3...what is...

I have not changed anything on my laptop, not installed any new software or anything. Opened CS3 Indesign and all I get is a splash screen with K2 CS3 on it and nothing else. No tool bars or anything. Help please!

Is there a menu? You could be opeing in full screen mode, so try hitting Tab.

You might also try trashing your preferences.

Finally, where did you get this copy of InDesign? I've never seen a K2 on a splash screen.

No menus, no toolbars nothing at all. Just a full screen window with the K2 CS3 header. Ive tried trashing preferences (cnt-alt-shift) but nothing happens.

You have to be really fast on the keyboard to use that method for replacing prefs. Sometimes it's easier to just rename InDesign Defaults and InDesign SavedData, which will be in your user profile. Fastest way to find them is to do a file search, and include hidden files.

Here is the final screen...

I searched for Defaults and SavedData and changed both file names. No help there I'm afraid. I don't even understand what K2 is...it seems to be some sort of InDesign internal program but I'm only a humble designer...certainly no PC Tech that's for sure....

K2 was the codename for version 1. I've never seen it show up on screen. I saw this reported before in a google search, and replacing prefs seems to have been the solution. Was it working before? Can you do a system restore to a point when it was working?

What's the history of this program?

There are K2 plugins.

Bob

Was working fine yesterday and never had any problems with it. I closed it down then tried to reopen later on in the day and then this. I will have to uninstall then reload it I guess...

Sorry...I have done a couple of system restores but that hasn;t helped either.

Try removing any optional plugins that look like they might be third-party from the application plugins folder. a .rpln extension is a required plugin, but others shouldn't stop ID from loading if they are removed, I think (though you'll lose a lot of functionality if you remove those provided by Adobe). The file properties should tell you who made them if you can't tell from the folder or name.
