I'm studying options for self-publishing and interested in publishing a pdf ebook if there is a way to prevent it from being distributed without authorization. I've been reading the How to Create Adobe ebooks guide: http://www.adobe.com/epaper/tips/acr5ebook/pdfs/eBook.pdf?span> I found the url for it in another post on this forum and it sounds like it's intended for people affiliated with some large institution that can support a content server.?Is there anyway to publish a protected pdf ebook that might be available as a download for purchase? I definitely prefer the appearance of pdf to most of the ebooks I've read online, but those have been mostly in an academic context and perhaps not the best.?My recollection is of frustration with the time needed to go from one page to the next, although Google Books are quite good, of course. It would be so nice to be able to do the book in pdf, but protected.
I'm just learning all this and am not really interested in dealing with the shopping cart management aspects of such a process, so if anyone has tips on services that might handle such functions for ebooks, that will also be most helpful.
Is ebook only way to create a pdf book...vjigour wrote:

Thanks, ~graffiti, that's helpful and I did see some info on DRM, but I'm not clear on what it applies to.?Are you saying DRM is associated with pdf ebooks and that they must be distributed on a server, as opposed to download??In other words, there is not a way to distribute a protected pdf book without having it on a server, correct?
I think I'm getting the explanations I need from Wikipedia.?Thanks.
